I have an annual review at the surgery whether I`ve been frequently or not at all. My practice always sends a letter out on or around my birthday - same for all the other patients under yearly review. The system seems to work well, though I refuse to go for any review on my actual birthday!!

I have to go every 6 months for a prescription review.
I agree Chrissie, for something like that it's a waste of time if you don't see your own doctor.

I know what you mean about wasted appointments.

After being on pain killers for two years I was given told by a consultant at the hospital that I should be on a stomach protector. She gave me a prescription for some. I took it to my chemist who deal with my repeat prescription and told them to add it to my list.

I got a note on my next repeat prescription from my GP's surgery that if I needed them again I had to go and see a doctor.

Made the appointment, saw the GP, told him why I was there. He looked on his computer at my records, the letter from the consultant had been scanned on to my records saying that she had prescribed them for me, he told me that it was guidelines from NICE that I had to be on them.........what a waste of an appointment when someone who needed to see a doctor could of had it.

Last year I had another note to see a GP before I could have anymore prescriptions. I just can't understand why I had to go. I see the consultant at the hospital, a letter is sent to my GP everytime I go, there is no cure for RA, it is progressive, I am not in remission, so why do I have to waste an appointment, sit in front of my GP on a chair and say I've got RA, here I am, can I have some more tablets please.

Every time I have my 6 monthly review (which they call me in for) Dr S says "how are you and what can I do for you"!!! I tell him it's for my prescription review and he says it's all fine and how are you? A bit of waste really, but he's a sweety pie so I don't mind
